Living Room – Built in Shelves

We love the size of our living room and the huge back doors and windows it has. However, the colors and flooring are not quite what we want. The carpet even smells a bit. M&M to the rescue! Disclaimer: This room is not finished yet but just giving an intro to it.

Before pics: (need to get a pic of the back door)

As you can see, this is when we were first moving in. Sorry for the focus on the vacuum cleaner in the pics haha that wasn’t on purpose.

We decided to go a little more neutral and paint the cabinets and the fireplace a bright white.

This is all we have so far in the living room but stay tuned for changes soon! We plan to paint and floor it similar to the master bedroom.

Master Bedroom – the beginning, middle, but not quite done

Over the past months, we’ve been doing various projects around the house and yard. Now is the time where our vision is starting to come together in some rooms. Our master bedroom renovation is nearly done!

Before pics:

This is after we closed on the house. The room did not look horrible but had stickers on the walls, paint wearing off, paint stains on the trim, and smelly carpet.

The largest problem in this room was actually beneath it in the crawlspace. We found out through our inspection that there was some bug damage/rotting on the floor joists. Luckily, it is not in every single one and the bugs are not active. Over time working on this house, we have found fixable solutions to preventing any further problems such as gutter water drainage. You can see in the one picture the contrast of the worst floor joist and the new ones going in.

We also painted the room a little bit more modern color. It’s a light grey with a touch of blue to contrast nicely against the reddish trim.

After pics:

The last project we have done on this room so far is the floor. We put in a floating wood laminate floor that we believe matches the existing trim and is beautiful to look at too!

Once we get back to the master bedroom (because we have so many other projects needing finishing ha ha), we plan to put up white crown molding. Stay tuned for those pics and other ones to come!

An M&M Intro

Welcome to our joint blog! Our names are Mark and Margaret Bauman (M&M) and we love to renovate! We found this love for renovation when and after we renovated our first home together. There were three “tricks” to what we did that made it a great real estate investment and also what we would recommend. We bought it at a very low foreclosure price, did most of the remodeling work ourselves aka sweat equity, and we sold it for more then we bought it for plus more than what we put into it. Success!! And well, we are at it again. We are in another house where we will do various renovation projects.

We both have desk jobs during the day that we enjoy,  but we also feel we were created to renovate houses from ugly to beautiful. Join us on this journey of deconstruction, construction, questions and answers, waiting periods, big renovation steps, and overall successes. Ready…..set…..RENOVATE!!

Me in my work clothes. 🙂 Showing off my out-of-date but coming back in style/comfy work shorts.  I will have to get a “work” pic of BOTH of us.
